Today (2/22/2007) Today I am going to give a bunch of websites and links that I have found helpful in learning about investing. I will briefly describe each website that is listed and then at the bottom of the post will be a list of books that I have found to be very educational and helpful to me. Lastly I would like to welcome anyone to add to the list of websites or books that have helped them in their investing over the years.
The basics
http://www.investopedia.com/university/beginner/
The above website is a very good resource for those who know nothing about investing and finance. It gives a very good description of the general ideas of investing.
http://www.investopedia.com/university/stocks/
The above website gives a good over view of stocks but I would warn that I do disagree with some of the things that are stated. I suppose that is something that will happen but overall a good overview.
http://www.investopedia.com/university/bonds/
Gives a decent overview on bonds and debt. Its a good place to start if you want to get more familiar with bonds.
Stock Simulators
http://simulator.investopedia.com/
A pretty advanced simulator that lets you trade options and stocks. I do not like a lot of the rules that must be followed but it is good for trading options.
www.marketocracy.com
Want to run a mutual fund? Well here you go.
Books
I found these books very helpful
The Intelligent Investor by Benjamin Graham
A great book by one of the all time great investors. A must read for people who want to make money through investing.
The Little Blue Book That Beats The Market by Joel Greenblatt
This book is a simple way to get great returns. Greenblatt writes a book that is very easy to read and understand and the theory behind the method is great. Worth a read.
The Essays of Warren Buffett: Lessons for Corporate America
This book was put together by Lawrence A. Cunnigham and it is all of Warren Buffett’s letters to shareholders put together to form a book that describes how Warren Buffett feels about things to do with investing. A must read.
Well that is it for right now but I will be updating this as I go along.
